Vincent van Gogh

Design: Jan Landqvist

Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) from the Netherlands is one of the most celebrated and influential figures in Western art history and a defining icon of Post-Impressionism. During his short but intense life, he produced over 2,000 works, including paintings, drawings, and sketches. His art, spanning landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and self-portraits, is distinguished by bold colors and powerful, expressive brushstrokes.

Among his most iconic works is the sunflower series, created during his time in Arles, shortly before his tragic death in 1890. Although unrecognized in his lifetime, he is now regarded as one of modernism’s greatest pioneers. Vincent van Gogh is buried in Auvers-sur-Oise, France. In 2023, the 170th anniversary of his birth was celebrated with renowned exhibitions and events worldwide.
