The figures of these men and women straggled past the flowerbed with a curiously irregular movement not unlike that of the white and blue butterflies who crossed the turf in zig-zag flights from bed to bed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Kew Gardens encapsulates the flair of modernism and Woolf\u2019s pioneering literary style. Set in the titular \u00adbotanical garden in south-west London on a warm summer day, the story is a collection of glimpses into the lives of four groups of visitors. Told in intricate and lavish detail by an unnamed narrator, the story has no unifying narrative. Rather, it follows the visitors as they meander past a lustrous bed of flowers \u2013 giving a fleeting snippet of their lives: their memories, associations and reflections, all spurred by the spawling greenery.<\/p>\n<p>A leading figure in modernist literature,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/novellix.se\/portfolio-item\/virginia-woolf-2\/\">Virginia Woolf<\/a>\u00a0(1882\u20131941) is considered one of the most important writers of the 20th century. More than eighty years after her death, her work continues to remain relevant in the modern world. Woolf\u2019s body of work includes novels, essays, and short stories. Among her most celebrated novels are<em>\u00a0Mrs. Dalloway<\/em>\u00a0(1925),\u00a0<em>To the Lighthouse<\/em>\u00a0(1927), and\u00a0<em>Orlando<\/em>\u00a0(1928), in addition to her feminist essay<em>\u00a0A Room of One\u2019s Own<\/em>\u00a0(1929). Virginia and her husband, Leonard Woolf, co-founded the publishing house Hogarth Press and were both members of the renowned Bloomsbury Group.
