Description
Gilles Deleuze (1925 –1995) was a hugely significant French philosopher. A pivotal figure and a major influence in post-modern French philosophy, he considered himself a “pure metaphysician” – the branch of philosophy that studies the fundamental nature of reality. Therein, his works can primarily be thought of as empiricist. His most significant work, Difference and Repetition (1968) attempted to form a metaphysical system akin to mathematics and the scientific method. His work has influenced disciplines across the humanities and social sciences, including philosophy, art and literary theory. Deleuze is often ranked among the greatest philosophers of the 20th century and remains a widely influential figure in present-day considerations of society, creativity and subjectivity.
